In the last couple weeks, we've lost Joe Kubert, Gene DeWeese, Jonathan Hardy, and now Harry Harrison. I meant to write something about Hardy when he died, and then it just kept piling on, and-- Gah.
I actually knew and/or worked with three of the four guys listed above -- Kubert, I only know as a fan of comics and his amazing work, but I knew Hardy from a couple of joint convention appearances (most notably GalaxyCon in 2003, where he, I, Lani Tupu, and a bunch of fans had a lengthy conversation about the nature of American television in the hotel lobby lounge), Harrison from when I worked at Byron Preiss (Byron packaged a couple of short-story collections of his, and he also did a comics version of Bill the Galactic Hero), and I edited DeWeese's last Star Trek novel Engines of Destiny.
They're all great people, and they are all deeply deeply missed.
