Tim Hildebrandt has died, of complications from diabetes, at age 67. Tim and his brother Greg are best known for their illustrations of J.R.R. Tolkien's work, much of which came back into print in recent years for obvious reasons. They're responsible for a lot of how people view the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings characters, and they definitely influenced Peter Jackson in how he made his film adaptaions look. I got to work with Tim and Greg on some book covers back in my Byron Preiss days. They were consummate pros, very easy to work with. I also met Tim when we did The Chronic Rift back in the early 1990s. Tim will be deeply missed.. Current Mood: sad
