DHL sucks
I posted that particular subject line because I'm now curious as to whether or not a DHL employee will show up to anonymously defend the company against those mean ol' bloggers, as has happened on [info]bill_leisner's LJ.

Seems to me that DHL should spend more effort in improving their crapass service than trolling the Internet trying to defend their awful service.

FWIW, I used FedEx and UPS a lot when I worked for Byron Preiss for five years, and have used DHL sporadically as a freelancer for Pocket Books. I've had more problems with DHL than with FedEx and UPS combined, despite using DHL far far less.

I wonder if it works like trying to summon Beetlejuice. Say it once. Say it twice. Third time's the charm!

----------

Customer: "So, what are your qualifications to be a delivery service?"

DHL: "Well, I attended the South Harmon Institute of Technology. I'm a graduate of the Domino's "30 Minutes or Else It's Just Gonna Hafta Be 95 Fuckin' Minutes" School of Delivering Stuff. I lived through the whole Airborne Era, and I had a pretty good time during that. I've seen Cast Away 167 times, and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it, not to mention the fact that you're talkin' to...."

Wow. Talk about right off the rails, eh?

wow...
I get the feeling that the above message's punctuation will be delivered at a later time.

(And I am not even going to touch on the Star Wars or PAD line).

I know Keith is supposed to be the second coming of Peter David, but if KRAD gets sent by DHL, he may never arrive!

If your spelling and punctuation are exemplary for DHL drivers, it's a wonder packages are delivered at all, since literacy (you know, basic reading and writing skills) don't seem to be a requirement.

Something I forgot to mention in my latest entry: after signing the contracts, I slipped them back in the DHL mailer and went to the local Kinkos/FedEx shop for the return trip. The very sight of the red-and-yellow envelope in my hand -- I swear, I am not making this up -- inspired another customer to say, "DHL -- those guys are really bad."

at my shop we randomly get DHL shipments. one was for the new Woodward book when it came out. they said that they couldnt deliver bc of an invalid address, even though there is ONLY ONE BOOKSHOP in my ENTIRE town.
ups and fedex just seem... less stiff than dhl, they will ask us if we know a person or a shop, but it seems, as happened to Bill, and other commentors there, DHL will just say, "oh well, invalid."

also, just to tell You, im sending out Serenity: the novelization tomorrow!

As soon as they did their big ramp-up about a year ago, I noticed that they didn't seem serious. The trucks and hand-carts they use are really second-rate (at best), and the kind of management that cuts corners like that is guaranteed to skimp in other ways.

DHL sucks even worse than that.

We had it happen this year that DHL misdelivered a package to us. The tracking report tells which company they delivered to (a company that doesn't exist), and who signed for the package (someone who is not listed in the phonebook). Several calls to what they call their customer service callcenter produced contradictory information (which made me ask them "which of the two people lied to me?). After I was told to write to the service center that processed the package, I did. Several times. My letters remain unanswered.

Bascially, their attitude can be summed up as, "We screwed up, you found us out, why should we care?"

I posted my DHL horror story on my own LJ and, yes, quickly netted a reply from some anonymous DHL bot. Which makes me feel even better about only hiring their competition.

So if you build it, they really will come....

I've been impressed by FedEx for sending out stuff for corporate related work, and UPS for non work related stuff (usually domestic).

DHL we never use at work unless a gun is held to our heads. Maybe not even then.

DHL Sucks

About twenty years ago I ordered a car part that was to large for ups and fedex, but I was told DHL could ship it for about half the cost of truck freight and they could ship COD (cash on delivery for the DHL employees out there), so I had them deliver it and I payed for it with a M.O.. Two months later I got a bill from DHL. I called them and told them it was COD and I payed them with a M.O.. About three months later DHL sent me another invoice, stating that if I didn't pay, they would cancel my account and turn it over to collection, so I called them again. Now I told them that I never had an account, I didn't want an account and their invoice was COD and paid. I thought that was the end of it and it was for about six more months, when I received a letter from a collection company, telling me if I didn't pay this invoice, I would get bad marks on my TRW. So I called DHL again and told them that this COD invoice was paid and if your drivers can't get back with their checks, maybe they need new drivers. I also told them that if anything shows on my TRW, I would sue. The letters quit coming and for twenty years I had no more dealings with DHL.

I now needed something from a friend in Florida, who just happened to ship via DHL, who swore they would have it here Monday. I just moved from one house to another and by accident my friend shipped it to the old address. Now I called DHL on Saturday and told them to send it to the new address and it seamed to go OK. Then Monday around noon they called and said I had to fax them a confirmation letter, OKing the different address. Not having a fax in years, I found a fax and sent it off, expecting it on Monday as they promised my friend. About 8pm Monday, California time DHL called me from New York, telling me that Dell (Dell from hell, that's another story) wouldn't allow the address change without a fax from the shipping company in Florida, not my friend who was the shipper. I asked DHL what Dell had to do with it and she responded, Dell owns a shipping company that was a middle man in this delivery. So, I asked when it would be here and she said Tuesday, before five. Tuesday morning about 7:30am I called DHL and after arguing with them I asked where the package was, hoping I could pick it up locally. I was told it was in Riverside, about twenty miles from me. So I asked when it got there and if I could pick it up. She said it got there Saturday, but I couldn't pick it up and it would be delivered to my old address by 5pm. I told her if I wasn't there to throw the package over the fence. I then headed to my old address to wait, luckily I still own the old address. The DHL beat me there by about five minutes. I know this, not because of a note on the door, but because of the skid marks in the parking area. No package in the yard, so again I called DHL. They promissed me it would return before 5pm. About 6pm I returned home and checked DHL's web site, which informed me that they couldn't leave the package because it was a commercial location, which it is not. My friend may have saved a few bucks, but it has cost me three days. I guess this Flintstone outfit doesn't have radios in their trucks, so the driver couldn't return Tuesday. DHL Sucks is way to kind.
