fuck, I'm a Grandmaster
The nominees for the 2009 Scribe Award for excellence in tie-in fiction have been announced by the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers. For reasons passing understanding, this year they have decided to lower the standards of the place by electing me a Grandmaster, joining the much-more-deserving Donald Bain and Alan Dean Foster in that exalted status.

The awards will be presented at Comic-Con International in July.

I am, to say the least, gobsmacked. Also: shocked, honored, touched, amazed, and any number of other verbs.

Tempering this are the fact that a) neither of the two novels I submitted for consideration (CSI: NY: Four Walls for Best General Fiction Original and Supernatural: Bone Key for Best Speculative Fiction Original) were nominated at all, and b) in the initial announcement, IAMTW's Lee Goldberg identified me as "Kevin R.A. DeCandido." *laughs*

Still, however, I am greatly honored by this award, and hope to some day actually live up to it....

Here's the complete list of nominees:

Best General Fiction Original
Burn Notice: The Fix by Tod Goldberg
Criminal Minds: Finishing School by Max Allan Collins
CSI: Headhunter by Greg Cox

Death Defying Acts by Greg Cox
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by James Rollins

Ravenloft: The Covenant: Heaven's Bones by Samantha Henderson
Stargate SG-1: Hydra by Holly Scott & Jamie Duncan
Star Trek: Terok Nor: Day of the Vipers by James Swallow

Best Speculative Fiction Adapted
Hellboy II: The Golden Army by Robert Greenberger
The Mutant Chronicles by Matt Forbeck
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space by Karen Miller
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans by Greg Cox

Best Young Adult Original
Doctor Who: The Eyeless by Lance Parkin
Primeval: Shadow of the Jaguar by Steven Savile
Disney Club Penguin: Stowaway! Adventures at Sea by Tracey West

You work very hard at your craft and try to keep each voice true to the series that they are in.

You are my kind of *hack* writer. We need more of them.

Congratulations! I know I've only read a very small selection of your work, but if it's a representative sample, your grandmasterliness is well-deserved.

I have no doubt that the strength of your poignant novelization of Gargantua cemented the deal.

In all seriousness: CONGRATS!
