Where the Wild Things Are trailer!
The trailer for Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are is now up!

I am very very much looking forward to this. This was one of my favorite books as a kid, and one of my prize possessions is a WtWTA poster signed by Sendak many many moons ago. And they got the Jim Henson Creature Shop to do the wild things and Forest Whitaker's the voice of the head WT. Me am happy kid-at-heart!

(True story: Sendak's day job was to work at FAO Schwarz, the New York City toy store. My paternal grandfather also worked at Schwarz, as a bookkeeper, and knew him. When Nonno saw that I had a book by Sendak, he laughed, and said, "Murray wrote a book? Wow!")

Wow, I didn't even know they made a movie from that book! My son is 25 now, but when he was small(around age 3) that was his favorite book. He had numerous, well-loved-and-dog-eared copies of that book and I had to read it to him every single night; I even taped myself reading it so he could listen to it in the car when we were driving somewhere. Once he learned to read he advanced to other things like The Phantom Tollbooth and LOTR, ha, but that was his first bigtime fave book. So I just now got him to watch that trailer and he was like, Oh, man, that is SO cool! I have to see that movie! He still has such a fondness for that book.

FAO Schwarz, no T

I have really mixed feelings. I thought the trailer beautiful, but the book is, simply, perfect. To offer backstory or more story might not work at all. But it might.

I can't believe what a perfect minifilm the trailer is. It nearly makes me weap with joy. I'd pay full-ticket price just to see that preview on the big screen. I sure hope the film is able to sustain that feeling throughout.

Add on the Arcade Fire song playing over the top and I'm geebling over this trailer big time!

I was actually happy to see they went the "muppet" route and not CGI for the creatures!

I don't know how it will all play out on the big screen, but this definitely looks promising.
