Spent 3.5 hours at the dojo last night. First was the regular class. Then the fighting class -- in which I was pushed hard, but which I did well in, I think. Then me and the other two adult black-belt candidates -- Senpai Gustavo, who is going for his third-degree belt, and Senpai Natasha, a junior black belt going for her adult black belt -- did a kata review with Shihan.
Starting tonight, I am a white belt until the promotion is done a week from Monday. This is part of the process, remembering your beginnings and being humbled. I will be the junior-most student in the dojo for the next two weeks.
This is really only the second step of the journey -- the first was committing to karate in the first place -- but I'm really looking forward to it.
