strike ended, so it seems

It looks like the writers strike has ended. From what I've been told by friends in the WGA, the AMPTP never once negotiated in good faith until after the Golden Globes were cancelled and they realized the Oscars were next, and then they thought that maybe they should try to do a deal.

Good for the writers for sticking to their guns.

responding to Scalzi

In this post I linked to an article John Scalzi wrote with advice to writers.

The more I thought about it, the more I had issues with two of the pieces of advice John gave (to the point where it interfered with my ability to fall asleep last night), so I posted a response, which I also post here Collapse )

Boogie pictures!

So I stumbled across four pictures from the Boogie Knights' concerts at Shore Leave 29 last year, and I have no idea who took the pictures. If somebody knows, please let me know either here or via e-mail at keith at decandido dot net.

Farpoint schedule

Farpoint 2008 has put up their schedule.

Said schedule doesn't include participant lists, but some are fairly obvious. Here's what I know for sure I'm doing:

Edited to add some more: Here's the revised schedule for Saturday. Still not coming on Sunday...

Saturday
11am-12pm: Boogie Knights concert, Valley
1-2pm: "The Quality of Leadership: a Doctor Who anthology," Salon F
2-3pm: An Hour with Keith R.A. DeCandido, Salon A
5-7pm: autographing, Hunt Valley hall

There may be other autographings and I may crash the Supernatural panel Friday night if I'm not already assigned to it...

no Sunday at Farpoint

Turns out that there is no make-up for the karate promotion, so either I'm there Sunday or I have to wait three months to get my brown belt.

So neither terri_osborne nor I will be at Farpoint on Sunday, since we have to drive back Saturday night for me to do this. Those of you wanting to see my percussional stylings backing up the Boogie Knights will have to come to Saturday's concert, as Sunday's concert will be without Krad the Obscure.

I'm trying to see if I can get the Quality of Leadership panel rescheduled, since now four of the panelists can't do Sunday at 4pm (peterdavidblog and puppetmaker40 will be gone by then as well). Edited to add: They've moved it to Saturday at 1pm. Woo!

(It's also possible that terri_osborne won't be at the con at all, depending on what the doctor says to her on Thursday. If she is there, though, expect her to read something cool at her one-hour whozits on Saturday. *big grin*)

short review of Jericho's return episode

AWESOME!!!!!!

Hawkins rocks. Darcy rocks. Every scene with Alicia Coppola is magnificence itself. And Beck is fantastic. For the first time on this show, there's someone whose ass I'm not 100% Hawkins could kick if he took it in his mind to do so.

They hit the ground running. Can't wait till next week.
