Brendan Fraser Fest

terri_osborne and I did a Brendan Fraser double feature today on the upper west side. First we saw The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, then we went out, spent some time at a Barnes & Noble across the street, then went back in to see the 3D Journey to the Center of the Earth. Both were huge amounts of fun, with the 3D effects of the latter particularly impressive. (I jumped out of my skin when the fish came jumping out of the water.) And Mummy had Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li -- which almost made up for the loss of Rachel Weisz. To say Maria Bello was an inadequate replacement doesn't begin to cover it.

In many ways, this third Mummy film was what Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Crystal Skull should've been -- certainly the two share a lot in terms of plot.....

(Oh, and it was cool in Mummy to see David Calder of the magnificent short-lived British series Star Cops in a supporting role.)
