unexpected progress....

No work on Farscape: Strange Detractors #2, but that's because I got one of those e-mails you love to get from an editor: "I like that idea a lot -- write it up!"

Not as good as "I will pay you to write that," but it's a good start. And this is something that could keep me busy for the rest of the year, which is no small thing right now.

It's off to the editor (it's a tie-in proposal), and I'll dive back into Farscape tomorrow.

Edgar Allan Poe's first short story, "Metzengerstein," was published (1832)

According to NOAA, hurricane is a regional name for a strong "tropical cyclone," defined as a "nonfrontal synoptic scale low-pressure system over tropical or subtropical waters with organized convection (i.e., thunderstorms) and definite cyclonic surface wind circulation." Tropical cyclones with wind speeds <38mph are technically "tropical depressions"; those with wind speeds 39-73mph are "tropical storms." Those with wind speeds >74mph are named depending on the ocean they hit: "hurricane" in the N Atlantic, NE Pacific, or S Pacific; "typhoon" in the NW Pacific; "severe tropical cyclone" in the SW Pacific or SE Indian; "severe cyclonic storm" in the N Indian; and "tropical cyclone" in the SW Indian.

Men's natures are alike; it is their habits that carry them far apart.

politics, Kerry Edwards

is he out of office yet? how about now?

From President Bush's final press conference:

The battles waged by our troops are part of a broader struggle between two dramatically different systems. Under one, a small band of fanatics demands total obedience to an oppressive ideology; condemns women to subservience, and marks unbelievers for murder. The other system is based on the conviction that freedom is the universal gift of Almighty God, and that liberty and justice light the path to peace.

Remind me -- which one are we, again?
