Schott's Miscellany 26 March 2009

Final day of US troops' fighting on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima (1945)

The correct proportions of the United States flag (the Stars and Stripes) were laid down on August 21, 1959, by Executive Order of President Dwight D. Eisenhower:

Where the long side of the flag is the "fly" and the short side is the "hoist," and if the hoist=1, the flag's proportions are:

Fly: 1.9
Union hoist: 0.5385
Union fly: 0.76
Width of stripe: 0.0769
Diameter of star: 0.0616

off to PA

Heading out with the Forebearance (girasole, bronxbob350, helgabee, and the LJ-less Infomancer) to the wilds of western Pennsylvania to visit my grandmother on the occasion of her 86th birthday.

The B&B we're staying at has free wireless, and I'll have the iPhone, so I'll still be around. The Schott's Miscellany will be on hold until Sunday night when I get back. Between visits, I intend to work on Ghost Academy and Farscape comics scripts. Wheeee!

terri_osborne is staying home to take care of Marcus and jam on her Stargate Atlantis novel without me to distract her.
