bone key

the joys of ego-Googling while sick

I found some nice reviews of my work....

"Willowe," who writes the "Readings of a Teenage Tree" blog, reviews two Supernatural novels: my own Bone Key as well as Jeff Mariotte's Witch's Canyon.

Money quote:
Sam and Dean were more in-character in this book as well, in my opinion, which made it a lot easier to read. Plus, Bobby was included in this, so how could you not love it?

I read Nevermore, another Supernatural book by Keith DeCandido and I must say I like how he writes Sam and Dean.

Also, a guy named Josh does pop-culture reviews at Motion Pictures Comics dot com, and he's got some nice things to say about Star Trek fiction. He's got a two-part overview of recent Trek books (Part 1 and Part 2) -- including some raves about Articles of the Federation -- and a nice review of infinitydog's Destiny trilogy.

But the reviews I care about are the two Mirror Universe trade paperbacks and A Singular Destiny.

Money quote regarding The Mirror-Scaled Serpent:
DeCandido’s reverse version of the pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager is a remarkably clever and engaging tale. I was far more interested in the plights of the characters in this story than I ever was watching actual Voyager episodes! And I absolutely loved the story’s connection to the Classic Trek episode, “The Cloudminders.”

Money quote regarding A Singular Destiny:
A Singular Destiny is exactly the type of Star Trek story that I love (no matter what type of media it is in): a BIG, galaxy-spanning tale filled with real dramatic stakes that is filled with connections to and explorations of many of the different characters, worlds, and races that have been developed by the previous Trek movies, TV series, and novels. It’s a winner.

two new episodes of The Chronic Rift

The Chronic Rift has two new podcasts up:

A Spotlight episode called "Summer Movie Preview 2009," which has host John S. Drew talking with Steve Biodrowski of Cinefantastique Online about the upcoming slate of summer films.

And a Roundtable episode on The James Bond Series, as John and cohost Jay Smith are joined by Bond novelist Raymond Benson and Better in the Dark podcast host Thomas Deja discuss the suave secret agent.

Both episodes are available on iTunes, at the Rift web site, and at podOmatic's Rift page.

waiting for the doc to call back

I called the doctor's office the microsecond it opened, and am now waiting for a call back to see if she can fit me in.

Swallowing still hurts like a motherfucker, and I only slept for a grand total of about three hours last night.

Fun stuff.

please buy my books!

Sorry for the plaintive cry for help, but money is very tight right now.......

If you would like an autographed copy of one my books, but can't get to a convention that I'm attending, I'm now making it easy on you. You can get any of the books listed below just by buying them from me via PayPal (payments would go to keith@decandido.net) at cover price or less (see list below), and I'll send the book(s) to you. I'm not charging for shipping within the United States. If you're overseas, send me the book price, and I'll bill you after I ship them for the shipping cost.

If you want the book inscribed, please tell me who to inscribe it to -- and if you don't want it inscribed (or don't want it autographed) let me know. You also need to provide a shipping address, obviously....

I also dug up an extra copy of my Nebula Award-nominated 2003 anthology Imaginings: An Anthology of Long Short Fiction, and so added it to the list.

If you have any questions, post 'em here. (And yes, I know I owe some of you books, and they will go out soon, but the cash flow has been poor of late, even with the Census job.)

congrats to chris_walsh (and Elayna....)

Back in this post I mentioned a raffle that shadesong and yendi were hosting to raise funds to send their daughter Elayna to the wonderful Explo summer camp. My contribution was to have one raffle winner get Tuckerized in an upcoming Farscape comic book.

Well, the winner was chris_walsh. So congratulations, Chris! (And congrats to Elayna....)

update from the sick bed

The doctor is fairly certain it's strep throat, but she's sending me to an ENT to be sure. I'll see him tomorrow at 11. Meantime, she gave me antibiotics and painkillers.

Quoth trillsie:
So I declare today Positive Energy Day! So share some nice tidbit that will boost the positive energies up and overtake the negative.

I could use some positive energy, so please share!

Here's mine: there are a bunch of drugstores in the neighborhood, most of which are one of the big chains, but there's one just half a block away that's a small family-run drugstore. That's where terri_osborne and I get our prescriptions, and today when I went in, looking like hot death, to get my antibiotics and painkillers, they were very sweet and understanding and helpful and polite.

It's nice to have a "family drugstore," as it were.

Okay, your turn....
