The Chronic Rift Spotlight: Bill Corbett

In this week's installment of the Summer of the Rift, Andrea interviews Bill Corbett, who was the second person to voice Crow on Mystery Science Theatre 3000, and was also one of the show's writers and players. Currently, he's part of the Rifftrax touring company that does on stage what MST3K used to do on TV.

Plus, we actually listen to our comments line....

A TOG is a unit of thermal resistance used to express the insulating properties of clothing and bedding. 1 TOG is the resistance that will maintain a temperature difference of 0.l degrees C with a flux of 1 watt per square meter or, put another way, the TOG value of a textile is equal to 10 times the temperature difference between its two faces when the flow of heat is equal to one watt per square meter. 1 TOG is roughly equal to the thermal resistance of a man's summer suit or a blanket of medium quality; 10 TOGs is the maximum that is practicable to wear. The TOG ratings of duvets vary by manufacturer but, as a rule of thumb, summer duvets are around 4.5-6.0 TOGs, whereras winter duvets have a rating of 12.0-13.5.

heart of the dragon

Wrote 1665 words of Heart of the Dragon, which is 40 words ahead of pace. Not a bad start at all. I'd do more, but I need to head out to the dentist.

I'll do my hour of spec work tonight....

confusing ringtones

On the subway, where I kept hearing a child laugh, but with no child in evidence in the car. Then I realized that the sound of kid guffaws was being used as a ringtone by the woman sitting across from me. *snerf*

comics urban legends debunked (or not)

Brian Cronin reveals the truth behind several urban legends in the comics industry, involving such luminaries as Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, John Byrne, Chris Claremont, Walt Simonson, and more.

My favorite, though, is discovering the role that Jack Kirby and Roger Zelazny played (sort of) in the Iran hostage crisis of 1979. Really! (Click on the link and scroll down about a third of the way through the page -- or just search for "Kirby.")
