TRANSCENDENTALISM sinks God and nature in man.
MATERIALISM sinks God and nature in the universe.
ATHEISM sinks the will of God and man in the movement of destiny.
PANTHEISM sinks man and nature in God.

Our SUPERFLUITIES should be given up for the convenience of others;
Our CONVENIENCES should give place to the necessities of others;
And even our NECESSITIES give way to the extremities of the poor.

The British Post Office issued the world's first postcards (1870)

October was originally the eighth month of the calendar.

Dry your barley land in October, / Or you'll always be sober.

October was a time for brewing, and the month gave its name to a "heady and ripe" ale: "five Quarters of Malt to three Hogsheads, and twenty-four Pounds of Hops." Consequently, "often drunk and seldom sober falls like the leaves in October."

In American politics, an October surprise is an event thought to have been engineered to garner political support just before an election.

Roman Catholics traditionally dedicated October to the devotion of the rosary.

Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Code of Honor is out

My first contribution to the "Don Pendelton's The Executioner" series, and my second and final novel of 2009, Code of Honor, is now available, based on reports, and also the fact that I got a box full of them. now available to subscribers to the series -- and I got copies also. It'll be on sale to the general public in early December.

Flipping through it, I'm stunned at how few changes were made. Guess I caught the style better than I thought.....
