Up to 3177 words on the urban fantasy, which brings me to the end of Chapter 1. Gonna read it over before sending it to the beta readers......

Today is karate, then helping out at the dojo with a kids' holiday party, then home to write some more. I have two holiday parties to go to tomorrow. Wheeeee!

What I posted on the first day of each month in 2009:

1 January: I rang in the new year, I posted my last "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" entry for 2008, I previewed "Schott's Miscellany" for 2009, I announced that I'd finished a comics script (it was Farscape: D'Argo's Lament #1, but I couldn't say that at the time), I noted the passing of Donald Westlake, and I discussed my upcoming writing schedule.

1 February: An irons in the fire update, the latest "Schott's," some selected quotes from the magnificent Kung Fu Monkey blog, and glee at the Steelers' Super Bowl victory.

1 March: A brief note from San Francisco in the wake of a very busy WonderCon.

1 April: The Haggadah on Facebook, the latest "Schott's," ThinkGeek's April Fool's stuff, an update on the writing of Farscape: Strange Detractors #4, a preview of KRAD KOMIX MONTH (I had four comics out in April 2009), and links to pieces on In the Hunt: Unauthorized Essays on Supernatural and Farscape: The Beginning of the End of the Beginning #4.

1 May: Aoki wakes me out of a sound sleep, I announce a reading on the radio (Destinies reairs my reading from Star Trek: A Singular Destiny), and the latest "Schott's."

1 June: An update on "Potato Moon," the parody of Twilight and the Twilight fanfic "Russet Moon," on Peter David's blog, the latest "Schott's," an irons in the fire update, and links to two good pieces by agents (one mine, one not mine).

1 July: The latest "Schott's," a link to BYU Vocal Point's a cappella rendition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller," announcement of the latest episode of The Chronic Rift podcast (and what turned out to be a false announcement about the Rift getting nominated for a Parsec Award), Al Franken finally winning the senatorial race in Minnesota, the deaths of Karl Malden and Mollie Sugden, Blizzard approved Chapter 4 of StarCraft: Ghost Academy Volume 1, and announcing the re-release of Farscape on DVD for the 10th anniversary, as well as a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego with Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Rockne S. O'Bannon, and Brian Henson, moderated by, er, me.

1 August: Extolling the virtues of the line, "It is my considered opinion that you can never go wrong with giant teleporting scorpions from Latveria" being a part of regular online discourse, updating on some pitches I'd sent, and the latest "Schott's."

1 September: My Dragon*Con 2009 schedule, a call for questions to ask Alan Dean Foster for my interview of him at D*C, an irons in the fire update, and revealing the cover to Don Pendleton's The Executioner: Code of Honor.

1 October: Some notes on the Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band concert at Giants Stadium, and my take on the Roman Polanski mishegoss.

1 November: An amusing quote from titaniumjunky overheard at a Hallowe'en party.

1 December: The death of Robert Degan, who may or may not have written the Hokey Pokey, and me joining much of the family on a trip to Atlantic City.
