prague, tainted love

midweek music: "Doctorin' the TARDIS"

Here's a major blast from the past, courtesy the Frakin' Spoilers blog (by my good friend Serenity Pond, you should check it out): "Doctorin' the TARDIS," a Doctor Who-themed parody of Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Parts 1 and 2," with some other stuff mixed in. It was a hit in the UK in 1988 when I was in college, and here it is complete with ridiculous music video......

27 March

Today is the 90th anniversary of the birth of the only grandparent of mine who is still alive, my maternal grandmother, currently residing in an assisted living facility in Pennsylvania. Grandma babysat for me when I was a little kid a lot, and she and I shared the rather traumatic experience of her husband's death.

Today is also the sixth anniversary of the death of my dear friend Rabbi David Honigsberg. David was one of my closest friends, we were in a band together, and I still miss him terribly. I wish he'd lived to see me and Wrenn become a couple (he was friends with Wrenn, also -- one of dozens and dozens of people who knew us both separately before we met in 2009 -- and I think he would've been very happy to see us together).

*raises glass to both these important people in my life*

and so it ends.....

I'm now officially a nidan. We did the final workout in our dojo, open to color belts as well as black belts, and then went to a local Japanese place for a big-ass celebration, at which we ate, drank (a lot), and were merry.

I'm so glad the restaurant is half a block from my apartment. *wry grin*

I promised to post the essay I wrote as part of the promotion, and here it is:
