Friday fanfare: "Hard Travelin'"

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did a tribute concert for Woody Guthrie, and the show included every musician gathered -- among them Woody's son Arlo, Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, Billy Bragg, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and many others -- doing Woody's classic "Hard Travelin'." And here it is:

the Yankees not walking on the Pinstriped Bible

The last time the New York Yankees walked as rarely as they have been this year, it was 2008 and they missed the playoffs for the one and only time in the wild-card era. This is not good.

An excerpt:
What concerns me the most, though, is the team isn't walking. They haven't drawn a walk since the ninth inning of Monday's game. Thursday night, they not only didn't draw a walk against Dillon Gee and his 58 ERA+, they were never in any danger of drawing a walk: not a single batter went to three balls in a plate appearance.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Rewatch: "Vortex"

Odo gets clues as to his origin -- OR DOES HE???? The DS9 Rewatch gets sucked into a "Vortex."

An excerpt:
The Miradorn are an interesting alien species, and Ah-Kel’s motives for going after Croden are much more believable than just going with “he’s a bastard,” but nothing significant is done with them because the episode spends most of its time on the Rakhari and the changelings. Ah-Kel gets away from DS9 way too easily for someone who’s supposed to be staying on the station due to his involvement in a homicide investigation. “Babel” established that ships need ops to disengage docking clamps before leaving, so how did Ah-Kel leave? And the tractor beam worked fine on Tandro’s ship in “Dax,” so why couldn’t they use it here? Why is Kira issuing them a stern “stop, or I’ll say stop again!” warning all they can do?
