NYY, melky

looking at the Yankee pitching staff compared to the rest of the AL on the Pinstriped Bible

The Yankees are relying on their pitching this year, but is it really an elite staff, or does the team's wretched offense make them look good? I look at some quick and dirty stats to compare the Yanks to the rest of the AL on the Pinstriped Bible.

An excerpt:
Of course, the part that matters isn't that the Yankees be better than a lot of teams, they only really have to be better than the other teams in their division. Sadly, Boston's fall to the cellar last year seems to have been on a bungee cord, and they're right back on top. Not only is their pitching superb, but they're on top of the league in OPS+, runs scored, and OBP.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Rewatch: "Progress"

Kira faces a crisis of conscience when she meets Brian Keith, who won't leave a moon that's about to be destroyed. Meanwhile, the birth of the Noh-Jay Consortium, and our first sighting of a self-sealing stembolt, as the DS9 Rewatch makes "Progress."

An excerpt:
Speaking of Sisko, as good as basically every scene with Mullibok is, the heart and soul of this episode is the come-to-the-Prophets speech that Sisko gives her at the kiln. Avery Brooks keeps it quiet and subtle, but intense (one of the actor’s best modes), and Visitor’s anguish is etched on her face. Les Landau deserves credit for the blocking here, with Kira on a lower plane (kneeling down to work on the kiln) and Sisko standing over her, then coming down to her level by kneeling next to her when he speaks to her as a friend rather than a CO, then standing back up when he goes back to being her CO.

loooooooooooooooooooong couple days

So yesterday I had to do the DS9 Rewatch for "Progress," then had to head out to Doylestown to teach this month's short story class with Jonathan Maberry and Don Lafferty (though Don couldn't make it this month), then back to NYC, not getting home until after midnight. Then I had to get up in time to drive our roommate Dale to the airport at 4.15 this morning (he's visiting family in Alaska for the next three weeks), then got some desperately needed sleep, then had a late lunch meeting with Glenn Hauman about what may be a cool project (look for an announcement in early July), then came home to teach a karate class at 7, and now I'm about to record an episode of Cyborgs: A Bionic Podcast.

Then I'm gonna sleep. A lot. Until I wake up tomorrow to finish a client edit and start on the last of the things I need to do for The Project That Cannot Be Named (Yet). And, y'know, all the other stuff. I should record this month's Dead Kitchen Radio, too..................................
