There's a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. On the one hand, it's a cool trailer and looks like it'll be a tremendously fun movie. On the other hand, it's a movie called The Hobbit, and the title character appears in less than 30 seconds of this three-minute trailer (yes, I counted), and his sole line of dialogue is "What's that?" Radegast the Brown and Legolas, who aren't even in the fucking book, get more play in the trailer. Sheesh.
Odo tries to raise a Jem'Hadar right, and utterly fails. Sisko thinks he's raised Jake right, and he mostly has, but gets some surprises when Jake's dabo-girl girlfriend comes home for dinner. The DS9 Rewatch finds "The Abandoned."
And what’s nice is that, even as the episode tells us there’s no hope for the Jem’Hadar, it also reminds us that it’s not a universal truth. What you are doesn’t have to be who you are—Odo says that to Kira, and Mardah demonstrates it by being more than the vapid hot chick that everyone assumes her to be because of her job. What makes the Dominion such a threat is that they take away the choice from the Jem’Hadar—the boy can’t do what Kira did when she stopped being a terrorist or what Mardah does when she tries her hand at writing or what Odo does when he tries and fails to undo the work his people have done.
