OCLT, crazed writer, dark forces, ellie, command & conquer

I never could get the hang of Thursdays

Today I brought a crapton of books from four different households to the Housing Works Bookstore & Café for donation. It's a great way to get rid of no-longer-wanted-and/or-needed books, as all their sales go straight to the Housing Works charity.

Then I finished the tie-in novella outline and sent it off. It needs work, but that work requires more information from the licensor that I hope will come with the notes on the outline. I can say that this will be fun to write, and I look forward to being able to announce it some day.

After that, I taught my afterschool kids (who are doing great). It's in Washington Heights, and I get there via either the 1 or A train to 181st Street, and I gotta say that the 1 train station at 181st needs help. It's one of those stations (like many in the hilly Washington Heights area) that's so far underground you need an elevator to get to it. But the elevators are only accessible via a tiny hallway that serves as a nasty choke point, especially since only three of the four elevators seem to work at any given time. Sadly, any part of Manhattan north of 125th Street tends to fall in the same neglectful dustbin as the non-Brooklyn outer boroughs, so I doubt the MTA will be prioritize expanding the entrance any time soon, but the crowds are insane even before rush hour......

Anyhow, after that, Wrenn and I did shopping for Balticon. Now I'm running around doing other Balticon prep, including tidying up the apartment for the dog-sitter, packing, and suchlike. I also made dinner: broiled chicken cutlets marinated in olive oil, citrus ginger rub (one of Auntie Arwen's specialty spices), minced onion, sea salt, black pepper, and white pepper. It was verra yummy.

Still waiting for a contract for the tie-in trilogy -- which is approved, but I really am not comfortable starting work until there's a contract in place. In the meantime, I've got KRADitorial edits to do, a Dragon Precinct Kickstarted short story to write, and probably some other stuff to do.

But this weekend, as I said, is Balticon 49, at which I'll be launching Without a License: The Fantastic Worlds of Keith R.A. DeCandido. Here's the current version of my schedule.... Besides that, you might also find me at the Dark Quest Books table in the dealer room.

Okay, back to tidying.......
