guide to the Farscape comics
I posted one of these a while ago, but there's been a lot since then, and there are still people who don't know about the Farscape comics, sooooo.....

Updated on 29 May 2013: Until such a time as Henson re-licenses these comics, this is as complete as it's gonna get, sadly.

Updated on 3 June 2014: We're at last getting all of "The War for the Uncharted Territories" in trade paperback!

GUIDE TO THE FARSCAPE COMICS

The majority of the Farscape comics published by BOOM! Studios take place after The Peacekeeper Wars, and continue the story of Farscape forward (the equivalent of season 5 of the show). They are as follows, broken down by how they will be collected into bound volumes:

Published as a hardcover in spring 2010; published as a trade paperback in winter 2011
Volume 4: Tangled Roots

Crichton and Chiana go after Roiin, the bounty hunter chasing Deke, while Aeryn chases down her past and gets a few surprises.
Originally published as Farscape (ongoing) #1-4, November 2009-February 2010
Published as a trade paperback in spring 2011
Volume 5: Red Sky at Morning
written by O'Bannon & DeCandido, art by Sliney
The homeworld of the Pilots is invaded by a mysterious new alien species, and it's Moya to the rescue -- but another Leviathan got there first...

Living in exile, Scorpius encounters a mysterious new alien species -- will this be his ticket back to power?
Originally published as Farscape: Scorpius #0-3, April-July 2010
Published as a trade paperback in fall 2010
Volume 6: Compulsions
written by O'Bannon & DeCandido, art by Sliney
Two Leviathans versus the Peacekeepers, and you won't believe the end result....

Scorpius Volume 2: Glorious Basterds

Originally published as Farscape #13-24, November 2010-October 2011
Published as a trade paperback in summer 2014

In addition, we've done a "D'Argo trilogy" of three four-issue miniseries that involve Ka D'Argo, under the general title of "Uncharted Tales."

Uncharted Tales Volume 1: D'Argo's Lament
written by DeCandido, art by Neal Edwards
During the third season, D'Argo and Jool must find a substance Moya needs to survive, and get caught in a gang war.
Originally published as Farscape: D'Argo's Lament #1-4, April-July 2009

Uncharted Tales Volume 2: D'Argo's Trial

The full story of D'Argo's life leading up to the premiere episode -- his courtship with Lo'Laan, their marriage, Jothee's birth, Lo'Laan's death, and the titular trial.
Originally published as Farscape: D'Argo's Trial #1-4, August-November 2009
Published as a hardcover in spring 2010, published as a trade paperback in winter 2011
Uncharted Tales Volume 3: D'Argo's Quest
written by DeCandido, art by Cleveland
Between seasons three and four, D'Argo goes searching for the man who killed his wife -- and instead finds Raxil and a heap of trouble.
Originally published as Farscape: D'Argo's Quest #1-4, December 2009-March 2010
Published as a trade paperback in spring 2011

And there you have it. The individual issues are available at comic stores, and from various online dealers like TFAW. The collections are available at comic shops, bookstores (particularly Barnes & Noble), and online dealers (like Amazon). In addition, I have some issues of the individual comics for sale.

Yup, it did. Been out for a while. I'm guessing it's out of print with Amazon or something. Weird.

I usually go to The Farscape Encyclopedia Project at farscape.wikia.com to find more.

Thank you for this! It is most useful!

Also, the comics are so completely awesome! They are a fitting continuation of the show.

Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying the funnybooks!

D'Argo's Quest

I really liked the D'Argo/Raxil dynamic. I don't suppose there is any hope for another adventure featuring the two of them? I seldom laugh out loud reading comics (in fact never before), but I found myself continually chortling while reading the dialogue between the two.

More please?

Re: D'Argo's Quest

Believe me, nothing would make me happier than to follow up DQ to fill in that final gap between #4 of that mini and D'Argo's arrival on Arnessk. No current plans -- right now, the focus is on "The War for the Uncharted Territories" -- but we'll see what the future brings....

Thank you, thank you!

Thank you SO much for this list. The timing could not be better--I was just sorting out my FS collection and wondering how to figure out what I'm missing!

Do I assume on the collections where a trade paperback is listed, but no hardcover, that no hardcover version is being sold? If so, what a shame--I love the hardcover versions.

Re: Thank you, thank you!

You're very welcome!

And yeah, the only hardcovers will be the five extant ones -- The Beginning of the End of the Beginning, Strange Detractrors, Gone and Back, D'Argo's Lament, and D'Argo's Trial. They'll all be released in trade paperback as well, and subsequent volumes will be in trade as well.

Scorpius ongoing #8+?

I read from you here:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showpost.php?p=891323&postcount=2
that Scorpius is ongoing.

However, Boom Studios is only listing Scorpius as far as issue #7 and my local comic book store says that the comic is done and there are no more after #7.

http://www.boom-studios.net/catalogsearch/result/?q=scorpius&x=0&y=0

I know you don't run Boom Studios but can you confirm?

Re: Scorpius ongoing #8+?

Unfortunately, your LCS is correct -- #7 is the last issue of Farscape: Scorpius. The book was intended to be an ongoing series, but readers, retailers, and reviewers all treated it like it was just another miniseries, and sales bore that out, and it wasn't possible to continue it beyond the two story arcs.

You can rest assured, however, that Scorpy-Sue will be playing a big role in "The War for the Uncharted Territories."

I think Strange Detractors should have "Bonus Vomit!" as a selling point!

Isn't that what we all know and love about Farscape?
kradical From: kradical Date: November 16th, 2011 03:22 am (UTC) (Link)
The vomit was actually my idea, not Rockne's, but he totally went for it. His precise note was my all-time favorite note on anything I've ever written, to wit, "Love the puke -- WHO DOESN'T LOVE PUKE???"

This is why I loved working with Rockne.... :)

Farscape Vol. 8 & Vol. 9 Trade Paperbacks

Have the final two volumes of the trades been cancelled? Seems vol. 8 was delayed 4 times before Amazon said it was no longer available for pre-order.

I can't handle another cancellation with an unfinished Farscape story! I emailed Boom but no one has gotten back to me.

Is there a phone number I can call at Boom! Studios?

They can't leave us hanging like the SyFy channel did at the end of season 4!

Re: Farscape Vol. 8 & Vol. 9 Trade Paperbacks

Got confirmation from BOOM! that Vol 8 and 9 were, indeed, cancelled.

Thoroughly disappointed in that myself. Alas.

Thanks for the update! I'm heartbroken!

Is there someone I can call to complain about this?

Re: Farscape Vol. 8 & Vol. 9 Trade Paperbacks

You'd need to talk to the Jim Henson Company, as they hold the rights. I've been trying to get an answer out of them for a while....

Re: Farscape Vol. 8 & Vol. 9 Trade Paperbacks

Any more news? I've only just discovered the comic, and knowing I won't be able to complete the set has me this close to just bailing all together. Havnt been so upset since the show was cancelled.
From: (Anonymous) Date: November 15th, 2012 11:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
Looks like you may be able to see the digital version so the last run of comics here: http://www.comixology.com/Farscape-Vol-4-Ongoing-24/digital-comic/AUG110902

Not as good as the TBP but at least you can finish the story arc.
