Tuesday's dead

Tired but happy after an excellent weekend in Denver for the Myths and Legends Convention. This is their fourth year, and they're small, but growing. And the people there were all excellent. There was a good-sized selection of authors there, the others all being local, as well as three musical acts. Just a fun convention, very efficiently run, with great great people and a strong slate of programming and activities.

Among the highlights were getting to spend time with some of the WordFire Press mafia, including Vivian Trask, Peter J. Wacks, David Boop, Sandra Wheeler, and my dear friend Jessica Brawner. Vivian was especially awesome, as she was not only the Editor Guest of Honor, but she also was next to me in the author area (the authors, musicians, and fan groups all had tables in the same open area of the con) and was delightful. I should also single out the mighty Stant Litore, the other Author GoH, who is a delight, and who is just as energetic as I am at these things, and I honestly think people were trying to figure out how to use us to power the hotel's electricity.....

Speaking of the hotel, it had a great event space (big open space surrounded by ballrooms, the bar and breakfast area right there as well), but the service left a lot to be desired. It was decent, but not great. Also, holy shit was the AC loud.....

Still, the con itself was awesome. I sold a ton of books, all my panels and events were successes, including my last-minute-add-on reading, which had five people. I read a few selections from Without a License, including "Editorial Interference," two scenes from "The Ballad of Big Charlie," and the short-shorts "Behold a White Tricycle" and "A Vampire and a Vampire Hunter Walk Into a Bar..." Another highlight was the Heroes Reborn panel where Peter Wacks and I -- who are both writing novellas to tie into the new NBC series -- had a great time talking about the series without giving anything away (a feat in and of itself).

The flights were okay -- in the flight out, I was stuck next to a douchnozzle who mistook the middle seat as his easy chair, and his left arm kept impinging on my space, to the point where I spent half the flight at a 45-degree angle toward the window. (At one point, I looked over to see that the guy on the other side of him was doing the same thing toward the aisle.) As if to maintain karmic balance, the middle seat next to me was empty on the flight back.

Today it's the TOS Rewatch of "A Taste of Armageddon," the dojo, and finishing the proposal that I was working on on the plane. Then it's into "Baker's Dozen," finally.....
